Programme for international schools

Have you ever had a WOLF in your classroom?
Over the years I have illustrated over 350 children’s books. I like to use this experience to teach children something about the art of drawing. I studied illustration at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, and recently finished my BIK course (Professional artist in the classroom), so I can teach art and drawing as a professional teacher.
Many Dutch children have read books illustrated by me. But also in other countries and even in China children know my work because quite a few of my books have been translated.

Ages 4 to 6
This egg belongs to me
Using images on the smartboard I tell the story in this picture book, about Hare who one day finds an egg. After this I draw an egg and I ask the class which special animal they think could come out of this egg. Then together we draw a new animal, based on all the ideas the children come up with.
Duration: 30 minutes
We will need: smartboard or beamer, laptop

Ages 6-12
Illustration workshop
I give a digital presentation about my career as an illustrator and my way of working. Of course the children can ask questions.
After this we draw. These are the options:
1 I read a story to the children and give them some tips about how to illustrate this story. Then the children will make an actual illustration.
2 Drawing animals together to create a big zoo, or each child draws their own house to make a whole new city with. We cut out the drawings and stick them onto large sheets of paper. This will make a beautiful wall decoration, for example to hang in the corridor of the school.
Duration: 60 minutes
We will need: smartboard or beamer, laptop, drawing paper and pastels
